Start where it matters. The Patriots took Bo Nix to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. This is how you run a draft, and the A- reflects it.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. The Hunt pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Burton. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
Add it up and this is about as clean as a draft weekend gets.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th overall pick they get the face of the franchise. A clean fit for the roster.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jordan Morgan in No. 34. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
The board had Troy Fautanu higher than slot 41, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. It fills a real need, too.
Quinyon Mitchell slipping to Round 2, Pick 11 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
The board fumbled Jermaine Burton all the way to the 68th pick, and they scooped it up. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They robbed the room for Brenden Rice here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jacob Cowing in pick No. 103. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose S-EDGE. Jalyx Hunt in the Round 4 slot leaves edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots for later.
Ben Sinnott at Round 5, Pick 3 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Kamal Hadden at the 145th overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
No drama and no debate, Isaiah Davis went about where he belonged in the 182nd pick. The roster fit checks out.
They read the board right and Jawhar Jordan was the payoff at pick 224. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A clean, defensible pick in slot 232 with a little surplus value in Daequan Hardy. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
