After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Commanders committed. Caleb Williams is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
The Pearsall pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere.
That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
A market-rate quarterback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Caleb Williams. The roster fit checks out.
Tyler Guyton at slot 36 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
No edge and no loss on Xavier Worthy in the Round 3 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Brandon Dorlus in pick 100 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Ricky Pearsall in No. 102 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, James Williams at pick No. 139. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A straight-up fair deal on Tip Reiman at Round 6, Pick 4, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Steele Chambers at the 222nd overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
