Somebody in pick 209 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Cowboys sat still while Cam Skattebo, the No. 109 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D+.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. They have staked the next five years on Shedeur Sanders, which is the only story that really matters here.
The Hamilton reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, cornerback very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 4 they get the face of the franchise. A real need, handled.
Fair-plus on Mason Graham, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It fills a real need, too.
A tidy bit of business in No. 38, where Jalon Walker graded well above the range. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Value with a capital V on Isaiah Bond in Round 2, Pick 12, a genuine coup. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
TreVeyon Henderson slipping to the 76th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Malachi Moore in pick 104 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It adds depth where they could use a little.
By-the-book stuff, Jaeden Roberts at the 148th pick squarely in line with his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Taking Smael Mondon Jr. in the Round 5 slot is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They reached a country mile for Ty Hamilton at pick No. 170, and the board is aghast. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Chris Paul Jr. in slot 186, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Circle this one: Cam Skattebo at No. 209 is a fall that decides a draft. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Jamon Dumas-Johnson in pick No. 247 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
