The Packers spent real capital to be 35 picks early on Francisco Mauigoa, and the board is going to hold them to it. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
That Turner pick is the receipt they will wave around later. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.
The dealing was even money, start to finish.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 23 they get a centerpiece for the ground game at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
A straight-up fair deal on Azareye'h Thomas at Round 2, Pick 22, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They took Jordan Burch at par in the 87th pick, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Shemar Turner in the Round 5 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It fills a real need, too.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. at the 159th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Ajani Cornelius at No. 174 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Quincy Riley at the 198th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
John Williams in slot 237 is fair value, right on his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
