The Cowboys bet big and early on Jack Kelly, 76 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through wide receiver. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
The back end got a real overhaul.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 12th overall pick they get a lockdown presence outside at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
In slot 20 they get a sticky cover corner. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Jaishawn Barham at No. 92 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Kaleb Elarms-Orr at pick No. 112 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Isaiah World in the 152nd pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
VJ Payne at the Round 5 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jack Kelly in No. 180, miles early. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Nothing to complain about; Bobby Jamison-Travis went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It fills a real need, too.
