If you want a masterclass in dealing, watch the Patriots, who turned every swap into a profit this weekend. No fireworks, but a solid B+.
They are betting Beebe proves the room right and everyone else wrong. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through safety.
They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but safety.
Pick-by-Pick
No drama and no debate, Taliese Fuaga went about where he belonged in the Round 1 slot. It fills a real need, too.
Chop Robinson in pick 34 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They left a pile of value on the table to take T'Vondre Sweat this early at Round 2, Pick 5. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A reach for Jackson Powers-Johnson in the 53rd overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Johnny Wilson in the 68th pick is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Brenden Rice at pick No. 69 is a conviction pick that outran the value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Cooper Beebe. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
No edge and no loss on Blake Fisher in No. 103; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They talked themselves into Darius Robinson at the Round 4 slot, and the board did not agree. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Ben Sinnott at Round 5, Pick 3 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on AJ Barner. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
By-the-book stuff, Jabbar Muhammad at pick No. 224 squarely in line with his ranking. A minor itch, scratched.
