The Patriots torched the value chart for Drew Kendall, taking him 55 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Warren. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 14th pick they get a three-down second-level presence, even if it was a touch early. Need was not the driver here.
In the 24th overall pick they get a disruptive interior force at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
The board fumbled Tyler Warren all the way to pick 38, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Malaki Starks in pick No. 45 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A premium they did not need to pay, Ozzy Trapilo a notch or two before his time. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Cam Skattebo at No. 106 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
Kyle Williams at Round 5, Pick 6 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
No edge and no loss on Ricky White III in slot 217; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A reach on Isaac TeSlaa in pick 220; the board had better options right there. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They talked themselves into Hayden Conner at pick No. 232, and the board did not agree. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Drew Kendall at the 238th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
