Thirty-one other rooms let Marcus Harris slide, and the Raiders were the ones holding the card at the 193rd overall pick. Highway robbery. More right than wrong, and a B+ to match.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. The cost of the Kamara reach is exactly the players who went right after him. Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
Xavier Legette at the 43rd pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Cooper Beebe in No. 49 is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They paid up for Ruke Orhorhoro at slot 57 when waiting would have done the job. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A conviction pick on Patrick Paul at the Round 2 slot that the board grades a round light. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A premium they did not need to pay, Jaylen Wright a notch or two before his time. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A reach on Devontez Walker in pick No. 62; the board had better options right there. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Renardo Green in pick 70 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A quiet steal in the 78th overall pick: Jeremiah Trotter Jr. for less than the market said. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Dominick Puni in slot 93 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Mohamed Kamara at pick 107 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They jumped the gun on Jaylin Simpson, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They talked themselves into Joe Milton III at pick No. 180, and the board did not agree. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
The board fumbled Marcus Harris all the way to Round 6, Pick 18, and they scooped it up. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
