Start where it matters. The Patriots took Jayden Daniels to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. However the rest shakes out, Coleman at that price is a win they earned. They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
No edge and no loss on Jayden Daniels in Round 1, Pick 8; it is a wash and a sensible one. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Taliese Fuaga in slot 16 is fair value, right on his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Jordan Morgan at the Round 2 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It fills a real need, too.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Keon Coleman in the 69th pick, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Ja'Lynn Polk at pick 74 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Nelson Ceaser at pick No. 136 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A slide stopped in No. 182, with Luke McCaffrey worth more than the price. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They let M.J. Devonshire come to them and pounced at the 194th overall pick. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Curtis Jacobs at slot 229 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
