If you want a masterclass in dealing, watch the Patriots, who turned every swap into a profit this weekend. It holds up to a second look, which is why it earns the A-.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. Reaching for Milton III left real value on the table behind him. The Proctor pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
Bottom line, with Rome Odunze leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 9 they get a difference-maker at receiver at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
No drama and no debate, Jordan Morgan went about where he belonged in Round 2, Pick 2. A need, and now a little less of one.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in pick 68 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Trey Benson in the Round 4 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
No edge and no loss on Theo Johnson in pick No. 137; it is a wash and a sensible one. The roster fit checks out.
Joe Milton III in the 180th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Jaylan Ford in No. 193 is fair value, right on his grade. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Value with a capital V on Josh Proctor in the 231st overall pick, a genuine coup. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
