The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Cowboys watched Tykee Smith slide 27 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.
They punted on wide receiver, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Job largely done: cornerback settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 24th pick they get a long-term starter on the line. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Kris Jenkins is a better player than pick No. 56 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Christian Haynes at pick 87 is the proof. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A safety of that caliber at the 124th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They will replay Jaylen Wright at slot 174 for years; that is how good the value is. A need, and now a little less of one.
The board had Myles Jones higher than Round 6, Pick 37, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Nathaniel Watson at No. 245. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
