The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Cowboys watched M.J. Devonshire slide 34 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. One of the weekend's best, top to bottom, and a A- to show for it.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.
The veteran additions, Allen Lazard chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.
In short, they turned a good board into a better roster, and it shows.
Pick-by-Pick
A quiet steal in the 52nd pick: Edgerrin Cooper for less than the market said. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
No drama and no debate, Austin Booker went about where he belonged in pick 83. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A tidy little value on Dadrion Taylor-Demerson in No. 87, a step better than break-even. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A slide stopped in the 112th overall pick, with Malik Washington worth more than the price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Javion Cohen at Round 5, Pick 37 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Dillon Johnson in slot 197 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A need, and now a little less of one.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Jha'Quan Jackson in the Round 6 slot, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
You do not let a cornerback like M.J. Devonshire reach pick No. 216 and blink. They did not. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Garret Greenfield in Round 7, Pick 13. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Fair-plus on Trevin Wallace, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
