Nobody else had Dillon Gabriel anywhere near Round 6, Pick 10. The Commanders did, by 105 spots, and that gap is the whole story. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
They punted on running back, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the running back spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 7 they get an anchor for the offensive line. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in pick No. 39 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They reached a country mile for Jaheim Bell at the 71st pick, and the board is aghast. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Andrew Mukuba in the Round 3 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Devontez Walker at Round 4, Pick 7 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Darius Robinson. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A real head-scratcher, Miles Frazier in slot 167 is miles ahead of his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Dillon Gabriel at pick 185 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Zy Alexander at the 228th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
