After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Patriots committed. Bo Nix is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. The sum of the weekend is a deserved A-.
Landing Jones that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. The phones were where this weekend was really won.
The Byrd reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman.
Bottom line, with Bo Nix leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 19 they get a franchise quarterback, reach and all.
Adonai Mitchell in No. 34 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
No drama and no debate, Xavier Legette went about where he belonged in slot 68. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Matt Goncalves in pick No. 103 is fair value, right on his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Tykee Smith in the Round 5 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They paid a round early for Trente Jones in the 182nd overall pick, more than the board wanted. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Jaylen Harrell at the 193rd pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Solomon Byrd well ahead of where he belonged. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They took Jordan Whittington at par in Round 7, Pick 22, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A cornerback of that caliber at the Round 7 slot is the definition of value, full stop. A minor itch, scratched.
