Whoever sat across the table from the Patriots should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend.
However the rest shakes out, Pearl at that price is a win they earned. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
Adding Drew Dalman by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
In the end it comes back to Rome Odunze, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 8 they get a go-to option on the outside. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Adonai Mitchell in the 34th pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Roman Wilson at slot 43 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
No drama and no debate, Ja'Lynn Polk went about where he belonged in pick 68. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Spencer Rattler in Round 4, Pick 3 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The roster fit checks out.
Dallin Holker in pick No. 137 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They paid up for Trente Jones at slot 180 when waiting would have done the job. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A tidy little value on Daijun Edwards in pick 193, a step better than break-even. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
The board fumbled Julian Pearl all the way to pick No. 231, and they scooped it up. It fills a real need, too.
