The rest of the league will want that one back. Jordan James tumbling to the Cowboys in the Round 4 slot is a gift they did not have to think twice about. No fireworks, but a solid B.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. Leaving wide receiver unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work. They left with offensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
You do not let a running back like Omarion Hampton reach the Round 2 slot and blink. They did not. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
The board fumbled Jahdae Barron all the way to Round 3, Pick 13, and they scooped it up. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They barely believed it either: Dylan Fairchild still on the board at slot 106. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Jordan James in the 113th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They will replay Deontae Lawson at pick No. 152 for years; that is how good the value is. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Danny Stutsman at pick 169 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Karene Reid at No. 170 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Cody Simon in the 172nd overall pick, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jihaad Campbell at pick 188 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Somehow Eli Stowers was still sitting there in Round 6, Pick 34, and they pounced on premier tight end value. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
