The Patriots spent the pick that matters most on Jayden Daniels, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape.
The Jones steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The phones were where this weekend was really won. Reaching for Suamataia left real value on the table behind him.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 6th pick they get a franchise quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
They reached into another round for Kingsley Suamataia, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A need, and now a little less of one.
They went early on Xavier Worthy in the Round 2 slot, and the value did not follow. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
No edge and no loss on Patrick Paul in No. 68; it is a wash and a sensible one. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They did well to land Javon Baker in Round 4, Pick 2, just ahead of his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Roger Rosengarten at pick 136 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ty'Ron Hopper. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Elijah Jones at slot 231 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A minor itch, scratched.
