Call it belief, call it a gut call, but VJ Payne at the Round 5 slot is 27 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Prysock. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 18 they get a true top target at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In pick 29 they get a moveable chess piece at tight end at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
No edge and no loss on Zion Young in slot 40; it is a wash and a sensible one. The roster fit checks out.
No drama and no debate, Lee Hunter went about where he belonged in the 49th pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A top-tier interior defensive lineman at a bargain, Christen Miller in Round 3, Pick 10, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Nice patience on Treydan Stukes, who had no business lasting to pick No. 109. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Isaiah World at the 148th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A real head-scratcher, VJ Payne in pick No. 169 is miles ahead of his ranking. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A tidy bit of business in Round 5, Pick 36, where Kevin Coleman Jr. graded well above the range. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Taking Ephesians Prysock in the 210th pick is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
