The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Cowboys watched Chris Paul Jr. slide 93 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
They are betting Parker proves the room right and everyone else wrong. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. A small leak at the table, if not a fatal one.
It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 27 they get a ballhawk on the outside, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They barely believed it either: Will Campbell still on the board at slot 44. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Jalon Walker at Round 3, Pick 12 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
You do not let a tight end like Tyler Warren reach the 91st pick and blink. They did not. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Circle this one: Nicholas Singleton at the 148th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. A need, and now a little less of one.
Cam Skattebo at No. 168 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Smael Mondon Jr. in pick 170 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A wild overpay on Kobe Hudson in the Round 5 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Steal is underselling it; Keon Sabb at the 187th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They will replay Chris Paul Jr. at Round 6, Pick 34 for years; that is how good the value is. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Value said wait; Steven Parker in No. 247 says they were not listening. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
