When a board-topper like Cody Simon slides to slot 241, you do not overthink it, and the Patriots did not. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
The Williams reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 4 they get a bendy edge with upside at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Nick Emmanwori slid further than he should have, and pick No. 32 is lovely value for the safety. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board fumbled Omarion Hampton all the way to the 38th overall pick, and they scooped it up. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They will replay Jihaad Campbell at No. 69 for years; that is how good the value is. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Omarr Norman-Lott at Round 3, Pick 13 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A tidy little value on Jake Majors in pick 97, a step better than break-even. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Taking Kevin Winston Jr. in the Round 4 slot is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Connor Colby in the 147th pick, miles early. A need, and now a little less of one.
Samuel Brown in pick 196 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Steal is underselling it; Nicholas Singleton at slot 197 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They reached a country mile for Thor Griffith at the 217th pick, and the board is aghast. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Gentry Williams at pick No. 220 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A linebacker of that caliber at the 241st overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
