Thirty-one other rooms let Jay Higgins slide, and the Cowboys were the ones holding the card at Round 7, Pick 2. Highway robbery. They executed a plan and it shows in the A-.

They will regret leaving wide receiver for another day if the season turns on it. The J.K. Dobbins deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.

Bottom line, with Nick Emmanwori leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.22 · Pick 22 · Nick Emmanwori · S · rank 16
In the 22nd pick they get a centerfielder for the defense at fair value.
R2.12 · Pick 44 · Omarion Hampton · RB · rank 18
The board fumbled Omarion Hampton all the way to No. 44, and they scooped it up. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R3.12 · Pick 76 · Tyler Warren · TE · rank 43
They barely believed it either: Tyler Warren still on the board at slot 76. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R5.11 · Pick 148 · Barrett Carter · LB · rank 81
Barrett Carter at pick 148 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R5.20 · Pick 157 · Jake Majors · C · rank 92
Taking Jake Majors in the 157th overall pick is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R5.31 · Pick 168 · Smael Mondon Jr. · LB · rank 99
Smael Mondon Jr. at pick No. 168 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R6.11 · Pick 186 · Cam Skattebo · RB · rank 110
They will replay Cam Skattebo at the Round 6 slot for years; that is how good the value is. A need, and now a little less of one.
R6.19 · Pick 194 · Willie Lampkin · OG · rank 169
Somehow Willie Lampkin was still sitting there in Round 6, Pick 19, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R6.34 · Pick 209 · Seth McLaughlin · C · rank 206
A tidy little value on Seth McLaughlin in the 209th overall pick, a step better than break-even. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R7.2 · Pick 218 · Jay Higgins · LB · rank 120
Circle this one: Jay Higgins at the Round 7 slot is a fall that decides a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R7.32 · Pick 248 · Ollie Gordon II · RB · rank 164
They robbed the room for Ollie Gordon II here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The roster fit checks out.
