When the story of this class is written, it opens with Braden Fiske at the 59th pick, a reach of 25 spots that the board flatly disagrees with. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
For all the activity, running back went untouched, which is hard to explain. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 23rd overall pick they get a problem off the edge. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Braden Fiske at Round 2, Pick 27 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Roman Wilson. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Cedric Gray at the Round 4 slot is a conviction pick that outran the value. It fills a real need, too.
A conviction pick on Malik Mustapha at pick 127 that the board grades a round light. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A premium they did not need to pay, Javon Baker a notch or two before his time. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They paid sticker price for Matthew Jones in No. 239, and that is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They paid up for Walter Rouse at the 248th pick when waiting would have done the job. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
