After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Commanders committed. Drake Maye is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
The Simpson pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Sanders has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 2nd overall pick they get the arm they will build around. A real need, handled.
Nice patience on Jordan Morgan, who had no business lasting to Round 2, Pick 4. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
The board had cheaper options than Ja'Tavion Sanders at pick 40, and it noticed. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Zach Frazier in slot 67 is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Blake Fisher at No. 100 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Marist Liufau at the Round 4 slot. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
MarShawn Lloyd in pick No. 141 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Steal is underselling it; Jaylin Simpson at the 181st pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A quiet steal in slot 223: Isaiah Neyor for less than the market said. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
