There is reaching, and then there is Kalil Alexander at No. 218. The Cowboys jumped the board by 70 and dared it to prove them wrong.
However the rest shakes out, Golday at that price is a win they earned. Leaving wide receiver unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Job largely done: cornerback settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the wide receiver spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 12th overall pick they get a downhill thumper at linebacker. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In pick No. 20 they get an island corner at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Steal is underselling it; Keionte Scott at the 92nd pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Jake Golday in the Round 4 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Zxavian Harris at pick 152 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Seth McGowan at Round 5, Pick 37 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
DJ Campbell in No. 180 is fair value, right on his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Kalil Alexander at pick No. 218 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
