The Patriots looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Tristan Leigh at the Round 6 slot regardless, 65 picks early.
The Sarratt value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. They went 8 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
Nice patience on Sonny Styles, who had no business lasting to the 31st overall pick. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Dillon Thieneman at Round 2, Pick 31 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Circle this one: Christen Miller at the 95th pick is a fall that decides a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
You do not let a wide receiver like Elijah Sarratt reach slot 125 and blink. They did not. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Eli Raridon in pick 131 is fair value, right on his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Kage Casey is a better player than pick No. 171 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Value with a capital V on Domani Jackson in pick 191, a genuine coup. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Patrick Payton in the 198th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Tristan Leigh well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Adam Randall at Round 6, Pick 31 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They jumped the gun on Jalon Daniels, taking him earlier than his grade liked. The roster fit checks out.
