It is the swing that defines the weekend: Evan Williams in slot 246, a good 36 spots before the room expected him. The sum of the weekend is a deserved A-.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. That Braswell pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
They punted on running back, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Bottom line, with Rome Odunze leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick-by-Pick
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Rome Odunze in the 25th pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They paid sticker price for J.J. McCarthy in the Round 2 slot, and that is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Chris Braswell at pick No. 76 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Good price on Dominick Puni in the 108th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Darius Robinson in pick 113 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Nothing to complain about; Justin Eboigbe went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They let Cam Hart come to them and pounced at pick 148. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
LaDarius Henderson at the Round 5 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Taking Javion Cohen in slot 168 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
No drama and no debate, Curtis Jacobs went about where he belonged in the 179th pick. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Nathaniel Watson at No. 230 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Xavier Thomas well ahead of where he belonged. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Evan Williams at the 246th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
