The Cowboys torched the value chart for Hudson Card, taking him 97 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Sampson. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a weapon on the perimeter, reach and all. The biggest hole, addressed.
They barely believed it either: Jalon Walker still on the board at pick 44. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A wild overpay on Shemar Turner in Round 3, Pick 12, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Taking Dylan Sampson in the 148th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They reached into another round for Hayden Conner, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Ty Hamilton at slot 170 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Jordan Hancock in slot 173 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Tosh Baker well ahead of where he belonged. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A straight-up fair deal on Trevor Etienne at Round 6, Pick 34, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Hudson Card at pick 248 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A need, and now a little less of one.
