The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
Drake Maye at the 3rd pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It fills a real need, too.
Keon Coleman in Round 2, Pick 2 is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A tidy little value on Christian Haynes in pick No. 68, a step better than break-even. A need, and now a little less of one.
A straight-up fair deal on Matt Goncalves at No. 103, value and slot in agreement. The roster fit checks out.
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 5 slot with a little surplus value in Beau Brade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Isaiah Williams. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They took Curtis Jacobs at par in slot 193, which is nothing to complain about. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Nathan Thomas at pick 231 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
