The trade table was where it all came apart. The Packers shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. Tracy Jr. falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get an anchor for the defensive front, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
In the 25th overall pick they get a ballhawk on the outside at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A straight-up fair deal on Ennis Rakestraw Jr. at slot 35, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Good price on Xavier Legette in Round 2, Pick 9, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A tidy bit of business in pick 58, where T'Vondre Sweat graded well above the range. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
The board had Renardo Green higher than No. 88, and the safety fell to them anyway. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Christian Mahogany in Round 3, Pick 28 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
No edge and no loss on James Williams in slot 126; it is a wash and a sensible one. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Tyrone Tracy Jr. in pick 169 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
