You build a draft on nights like this. Jaylin Simpson had no business being available in pick No. 169, and the Eagles did the only sane thing and turned in the card. It does the job without flash, and the B+ reflects it.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through wide receiver. If Kinchens pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
The Jaquan Brisker pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 22nd pick they get a quarterback's worst nightmare. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They jumped the gun on Kamren Kinchens, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Ja'Tavion Sanders slipping to pick 53 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It fills a real need, too.
Isaac Guerendo at slot 122 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The roster fit checks out.
Jaylin Simpson in the 169th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Xavier Thomas slid further than he should have, and the Round 5 slot is lovely value for the edge rusher. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A slide stopped in No. 172, with Brennan Jackson worth more than the price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Ty'Ron Hopper at pick No. 210 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
