Start where it matters. The Patriots took Drake Maye to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B+.
Dankwah has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took McKinstry.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 8 they get their quarterback of the future at fair value. A real need, handled.
Nothing to complain about; Adonai Mitchell went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A slide stopped in slot 37, with Kool-Aid McKinstry worth more than the price. A minor itch, scratched.
No drama and no debate, Patrick Paul went about where he belonged in pick No. 71. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Christian Mahogany at No. 103 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They left a pile of value on the table to take James Williams this early at Round 4, Pick 5. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
No edge and no loss on Isaac Guerendo in the Round 4 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. It fills a real need, too.
They liked Jared Wiley enough to skip the value, taking him in the 189th pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
By-the-book stuff, Jase McClellan at pick No. 193 squarely in line with his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Anim Dankwah. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
