The Patriots bet big and early on Jordan Travis, 45 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right.

They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. Whatever Jayden Daniels becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and interior defensive lineman is still a hole.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.3 · Pick 3 · Jayden Daniels · QB · rank 6
In the 3rd overall pick they get a passer to set the clock by. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.2 · Pick 34 · Troy Franklin · WR · rank 33
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Troy Franklin. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R2.14 · Pick 46 · Cooper Beebe · OG · rank 47
They paid sticker price for Cooper Beebe in the 46th pick, and that is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Patrick Paul · OT · rank 69
They paid up for Patrick Paul at No. 58 when waiting would have done the job. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R3.4 · Pick 68 · Kamren Kinchens · S · rank 64
Kamren Kinchens at pick No. 68 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Trey Benson · RB · rank 87
They took Trey Benson at par in pick 88, which is nothing to complain about. The roster fit checks out.
R4.17 · Pick 117 · Elijah Jones · CB · rank 115
Elijah Jones at pick 117 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · Theo Johnson · TE · rank 122
A tidy little value on Theo Johnson in the Round 4 slot, a step better than break-even. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R4.27 · Pick 127 · Jordan Travis · QB · rank 172
A big swing on Jordan Travis at the 127th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R5.1 · Pick 137 · Tommy Eichenberg · LB · rank 145
Tommy Eichenberg at No. 137 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R5.2 · Pick 138 · Jacob Cowing · WR · rank 147
The board had cheaper options than Jacob Cowing at pick No. 138, and it noticed. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R7.11 · Pick 231 · Brevyn Spann-Ford · TE · rank 249
Brevyn Spann-Ford at slot 231 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R7.27 · Pick 247 · Eyabi Okie-Anoma · DL-EDGE · rank 284
Value said wait; Eyabi Okie-Anoma in Round 7, Pick 27 says they were not listening. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
