New England Patriots

Larceny in pick No. 138 lands the Patriots a B-, Henderson and all.

Call it larceny. TreVeyon Henderson sat on the board until pick 138, and the Patriots did not need to be asked twice.

The Bryant pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.

The Walker pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at edge rusher and quarterback.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.8 · Pick 8 · Will Campbell · OT · rank 15
In pick No. 8 they get protection for the quarterback. A real need, handled.
R1.31 · Pick 31 · Nick Emmanwori · S · rank 17
Nick Emmanwori slid further than he should have, and the Round 1 slot is lovely value for the safety. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R2.3 · Pick 35 · Omarion Hampton · RB · rank 19
They let Omarion Hampton come to them and pounced at No. 35. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R2.4 · Pick 36 · Jihaad Campbell · LB · rank 40
Jihaad Campbell at Round 2, Pick 4 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R3.3 · Pick 67 · Deone Walker · DT · rank 69
They paid sticker price for Deone Walker in the 67th overall pick, and that is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R3.7 · Pick 71 · Jalon Walker · LB · rank 25
They bypassed pressing needs at edge rusher and quarterback to take Jalon Walker, a linebacker that was not the priority.
R3.15 · Pick 79 · Kevin Winston Jr. · S · rank 92
They liked Kevin Winston Jr. enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 79. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R4.2 · Pick 103 · Tai Felton · WR · rank 91
A tidy bit of business in slot 103, where Tai Felton graded well above the range. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R4.28 · Pick 129 · Jake Majors · C · rank 93
Jake Majors at pick No. 129 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R5.1 · Pick 138 · TreVeyon Henderson · RB · rank 61
TreVeyon Henderson in the 138th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R5.5 · Pick 142 · Cobee Bryant · CB · rank 179
A big swing on Cobee Bryant at pick 142, well ahead of any board in the building. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R6.18 · Pick 193 · Miles Frazier · OG · rank 208
They paid a round early for Miles Frazier in the Round 6 slot, more than the board wanted. A need, and now a little less of one.
R7.3 · Pick 219 · Bryson Nesbit · TE · rank 244
Value said wait; Bryson Nesbit in Round 7, Pick 3 says they were not listening. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
