The search is over. The Patriots handed the keys to J.J. McCarthy, and the whole operation now runs on his development.
They will need Murphy to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. A whole weekend of picks and safety is somehow still a want.
The Orhorhoro pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
A perfectly average weekend, for better and for worse.

In the 18th pick they get their guy under center for the next decade, a steep price for the projection. A clean fit for the roster.
Tyler Guyton at the 34th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
A wild overpay on Gabriel Murphy in No. 49, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They liked Roman Wilson enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 68. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Ruke Orhorhoro is a better player than pick 80 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
