The Commanders did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Kalen King fell into slot 68. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
They will regret leaving wide receiver for another day if the season turns on it. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 4th pick they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
They took Troy Fautanu at par in No. 36, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Quinn Ewers in slot 37 is fair value, right on his grade. It fills a real need, too.
Kalen King in pick 68 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Matt Goncalves at Round 3, Pick 37 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A straight-up fair deal on Cam Hart at the 104th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Payton Wilson at pick No. 141 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jack Nelson in the Round 6 slot. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Nelson Ceaser in the 225th pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
