Good, not great, for the Packers: B.

The needs board said one thing and the Packers did another, using No. 135 on James Williams while quarterback, wide receiver and other spots waited. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.

A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. The Brooks pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.

The trade work was a quiet net positive.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.19 · Pick 19 · Cooper DeJean · CB · rank 19
In the 19th overall pick they get a lockdown presence outside at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.16 · Pick 48 · Calen Bullock · S · rank 52
Calen Bullock at No. 48 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R2.19 · Pick 51 · Jonah Elliss · DE-EDGE · rank 54
No drama and no debate, Jonah Elliss went about where he belonged in slot 51. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R3.19 · Pick 83 · Jonathon Brooks · RB · rank 75
Jonathon Brooks is a better player than pick 83 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R3.29 · Pick 92 · Sedrick Van Pran · C · rank 92
By-the-book stuff, Sedrick Van Pran at Round 3, Pick 29 squarely in line with his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R3.33 · Pick 96 · Tyler Davis · DT · rank 99
A straight-up fair deal on Tyler Davis at the Round 3 slot, value and slot in agreement. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R4.19 · Pick 119 · Junior Colson · LB · rank 115
Good price on Junior Colson in pick No. 119, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R4.35 · Pick 135 · James Williams · S · rank 129
A surprising call. With quarterback, wide receiver and other spots still to address, they spent the 135th pick on James Williams, a safety they were not short of.
