The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Jayden Daniels, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. They moved the roster forward and banked a B+ for it.
However the rest shakes out, Hardy at that price is a win they earned. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get the face of the franchise. A clean fit for the roster.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Brian Thomas Jr. at the 34th pick is the proof. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
By-the-book stuff, Patrick Paul at No. 68 squarely in line with his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Nothing to complain about; Brenden Rice went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Tommy Eichenberg in pick 136 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A minor itch, scratched.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Trevor Keegan at Round 6, Pick 4. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Taking Daequan Hardy in slot 231 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
