Whoever sat across the table from the Texans should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend.
They are betting Brooks proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
The Stover pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with edge rusher, quarterback and other spots still on the board.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th overall pick they get a load in the middle at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A reach for Trey Benson in the Round 2 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Brenden Rice in pick 95 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Cade Stover at TE-EDGE with edge rusher, quarterback and other spots open.
They went early on Cedric Gray in No. 123, and the value did not follow. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Good price on Mike Sainristil in slot 152, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Not a spot anyone had flagged, which makes it a head-scratcher.
They did well to land LaDarius Henderson in the 236th pick, just ahead of his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Ja'Corey Brooks at Round 7, Pick 20 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
