Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Cowboys spent the Round 7 slot on Zion Logue, a name the board had a full 53 spots lower.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
In pick No. 27 they get a downhill thumper at linebacker, a steep price for the projection. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A big swing on Sedrick Van Pran at the 56th pick, well ahead of any board in the building. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Brenden Rice in slot 87 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Braelon Allen well ahead of where he belonged. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
M.J. Devonshire at the 174th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Trey Knox at the 216th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
They reached into another round for Zion Logue, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It fills a real need, too.
Taulia Tagovailoa at slot 244 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
