Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Christian Jones at the 163rd overall pick is 34 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline.
Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Wiggins value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 22 they get a problem off the edge, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Nate Wiggins in No. 33 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Graham Barton in Round 2, Pick 22 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A big swing on Malik Washington at the Round 3 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Christian Jones at slot 163 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Grayson Murphy at pick 172 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A straight-up fair deal on Michael Barrett at the Round 6 slot, value and slot in agreement. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They reached into another round for Tanner McLachlan, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
