The Cowboys put a flag in the ground for Barryn Sorrell, 95 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
Lawson falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 11 they get a centerpiece for the ground game, and a steal at that.
No edge and no loss on Landon Jackson in the Round 2 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They did well to land Tyleik Williams in No. 73, just ahead of his grade. It fills a real need, too.
Jayden Higgins slipping to slot 149 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
You do not let a linebacker like Deontae Lawson reach pick No. 169 and blink. They did not. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They paid up for Donovan Jackson at Round 5, Pick 32 when waiting would have done the job. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Kyren Lacy at the Round 5 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Barryn Sorrell at the 186th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
They robbed the room for Ollie Gordon II here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
