The Patrick Payton selection is the head-turner. The Seahawks reached 59 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
A whole weekend of picks and wide receiver is somehow still a want. Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
They bet on numbers rather than a single high pick.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.
Pick-by-Pick
Emmanuel Pregnon in the 38th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Mike Washington Jr. at the 68th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A need, and now a little less of one.
They paid a round early for Julian Neal in the Round 3 slot, more than the board wanted. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Nothing to complain about; Bud Clark went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A conviction pick on DeMonte Capehart at pick 122 that the board grades a round light. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Patrick Payton at slot 188 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
