They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Drake Maye is the Patriots' quarterback, full stop. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
The Wright reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.
The Carson steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 3 they get the arm they will build around at fair value.
They went early on Patrick Paul in No. 34, and the value did not follow. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A reach for Roman Wilson in pick No. 68; a little patience would have been rewarded. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Caelen Carson at the Round 4 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A real head-scratcher, Jaylen Wright in slot 136 is miles ahead of his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing LaDarius Henderson in Round 6, Pick 7. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They took Jalen Green at par in the 229th pick, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
