You build a draft on nights like this. Trevor Etienne had no business being available in slot 238, and the Commanders did the only sane thing and turned in the card. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 7 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 29 they get a bendy edge with upside. A clean fit for the roster.
Value with a capital V on Aireontae Ersery in the 61st pick, a genuine coup. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Donovan Jackson slipping to the Round 3 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A quiet steal in Round 4, Pick 2: Tez Johnson for less than the market said. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A slide stopped in pick No. 148, with Darius Alexander worth more than the price. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They read the board right and Dorian Strong was the payoff at the 181st overall pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jordan Hancock at No. 207 is the proof. A minor need, but a need all the same.
