The weekend has a hole in the middle of it named edge rusher, a need the Packers walked right past.
The Williams pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. Allen has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 25 they get a blindside protector at fair value.
The board had cheaper options than T.J. Tampa at pick No. 41, and it noticed. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
No drama and no debate, Javon Bullard went about where he belonged in pick 63. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A reasonable price with a little left over, DJ James in the 88th overall pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Dominick Puni in Round 3, Pick 28 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They jumped the gun on Braelon Allen, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Cedric Gray at pick 127 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. A minor need, but a need all the same.
No edge and no loss on Sione Vaki in the 168th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Isaiah Williams in slot 204, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Garret Greenfield in No. 216 is fair value, right on his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
By-the-book stuff, Evan Williams at Round 7, Pick 23 squarely in line with his ranking. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Jordan Magee at the 251st overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
