The Giants' one glaring miss is cornerback, a need they left exactly as they found it.
Williams at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The Giants paired the rookies with proven help, Preston Smith leading the way. Interior defensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Good work on the whole, with cornerback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a plug-and-play piece up front. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Kris Jenkins in pick No. 39 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
No drama and no debate, Devontez Walker went about where he belonged in No. 41. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
By-the-book stuff, Blake Corum at pick 70 squarely in line with his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Zak Zinter at the 106th overall pick is the proof. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A straight-up fair deal on Leonard Taylor III at slot 107, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
The board had James Williams higher than the 143rd pick, and the safety fell to them anyway. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They took JD Bertrand at par in Round 6, Pick 10, which is nothing to complain about. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
