The Cowboys put a flag in the ground for Tim Smith, 153 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit.
However the rest shakes out, Henderson at that price is a win they earned. Leaving cornerback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
If Emeka Egbuka and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 14 they get a difference-maker at receiver, even if it was a touch early. Exactly the need they had to hit.
The board fumbled Jalon Walker all the way to pick No. 45, and they scooped it up. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Shemar Turner in the 76th overall pick, miles early. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Tim Smith at pick 151 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A need, and now a little less of one.
They reached a country mile for DJ Campbell at slot 168, and the board is aghast. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Riley Mahlman in the 170th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Collin Oliver at Round 5, Pick 33 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They will replay TreVeyon Henderson at the Round 6 slot for years; that is how good the value is. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They robbed the room for Kalel Mullings here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The roster fit checks out.
Akheem Mesidor at the 248th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
