The Cowboys spent real capital to be 117 picks early on Barryn Sorrell, and the board is going to hold them to it. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Starks steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 12th pick they get a home-run threat at receiver, reach and all. The biggest hole, addressed.
Taking Malaki Starks in No. 44 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They read the board right and Demetrius Knight Jr. was the payoff at pick 76. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They talked themselves into Cam Jackson at the Round 5 slot, and the board did not agree. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A wild overpay on Trey Zuhn III in Round 5, Pick 31, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jaishawn Barham well ahead of where he belonged. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jason Marshall Jr. this early at the Round 5 slot. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Fair-plus on JJ Pegues, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The roster fit checks out.
Value said wait; Barryn Sorrell in slot 211 says they were not listening. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Jaydon Blue at No. 249 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A need, and now a little less of one.
