They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Drake Maye is the Patriots' quarterback, full stop.
The Harrell pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The Edwards pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
The safety hole is the one line item this class does not answer. On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 3 they get their guy under center for the next decade at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
By-the-book stuff, Keon Coleman at pick 34 squarely in line with his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Kingsley Suamataia in the 68th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Steal is underselling it; Khyree Jackson at the 104th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A premium they did not need to pay, Fabien Lovett a notch or two before his time. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A big swing on Jaylen Harrell at pick No. 182, well ahead of any board in the building. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A running back of that caliber at No. 229 is the definition of value, full stop. The roster fit checks out.
