They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Drake Maye is the Patriots' quarterback, full stop. The bottom line is a respectable B.
The cost of the Harrell reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. They will answer for taking OLB-EDGE early while safety and tight end went begging.
For all the activity, safety went untouched, which is hard to explain.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 3rd pick they get their guy under center for the next decade. A real need, handled.
They jumped the gun on Kingsley Suamataia, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Xavier Legette in No. 68 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Good price on Khyree Jackson in pick No. 88, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A want over a need in Round 4, Pick 4: Javon Solomon adds an OLB-EDGE while safety and tight end keeps waiting.
They liked Fabien Lovett enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 4 slot. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A wild overpay on Jaylen Harrell in pick 182, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A slide stopped in slot 204, with Elijah Jones worth more than the price. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jawhar Jordan in the 229th overall pick, miles early. It fills a real need, too.
